D2 operates an open door policy; young people are familiar with this policy and drop-in throughout the day for a wide range of reasons. The reasons can be as simple as coming to use the phone or computers or help with form filling to sharing more personal issues with a worker on a one-to-one basis.
Out strength is our ability to build mutually trusting relationships with young people. This is supported by the fundamental principle that young people engage with us because they choose to.
Young people have told us that they feel able to come to us to share matters of concern and that the trust we will act in their best interests.
“I felt really relieved after I spoke to the workers about my problem. They made me feel at ease and that it wasn’t such a big deal. They helped me through the scenario by telling me what was going to happen so I was prepared.” Male aged 16
“D2 is something to do and somewhere to meet your friends, you can tell the workers anything and it stays inside D2.” Female aged 13
