Outreach Work in association with Newcastle Independence Network continues to provide support for young people in their first tenancy. This is then followed up in the Young Tenants Drop In held every Wednesday.–This can be used by any young person who is a new tenant, homeless, or thinking about their own tenancy. We can offer help with housing, furnishing, housing benefit, parenting issues.
What is Streetwork?
Streetwork is where workers go out onto the streets, or other places where young people meet, to build and form relationships. The relationship between the worker and young person is built on mutual trust and respect that develops on the young person’s terms. Workers are then able to identify young peoples’ needs, as young people are more inclined to share their situation with someone they have a mutual trusting relationship with.
Once needs are identified, workers can support young people through a variety of methods; for example, offering avenues of support, providing information, sign-posting, practical assistance, help in organising activities, projects, residential weekends and so on. |
